practical weeding training

Agriculture

GAEO supports poor farmers to increase sustainable crop production and strengthen livestock and backyard poultry through practical training, demonstrations, and field based mentoring. We promote modern and efficient irrigation techniques, better water management, and awareness on water use and local water regulations where relevant. Our teams train farmers on best agricultural practices, soil and crop management, safe and responsible pesticide use, and climate change adaptation to protect yields and reduce risks. We also encourage value addition and post harvest handling to minimize losses and improve income. GAEO strengthens linkages between farmers and markets by improving coordination, introducing appropriate technologies, and supporting access to improved inputs and tools based on farmers’ knowledge and experience. Where possible, we help rehabilitate and rebuild rural agriculture infrastructure and introduce improved land preparation practices, including land leveling methods, to increase productivity and long term livelihood stability for small and marginal farmers.

Economic Development

GAEO believes lasting development depends on jobs, income generation, and stable livelihoods for ordinary people. We work closely with communities to uplift living conditions through participatory approaches that prioritize local ownership and practical solutions. Our economic development programs focus on empowering women and youth through skills development, vocational training, entrepreneurship guidance, and support for small businesses so individuals can earn and manage income independently. We help participants strengthen basic financial and planning skills, improve employability, and access market opportunities through stronger linkages and mentoring. GAEO also supports job placement where feasible by connecting trained individuals with entrepreneurs and local employers, and by promoting networks that expand opportunity. By partnering at the grassroots level, we help communities identify resources, strengthen their capacity to earn, and improve access to services and opportunities that support long term resilience, self reliance, and dignity.

Education Sector

Since 2011, GAEO has supported education as a key pillar of community development and stability. We believe every child and young person deserves quality schooling and equal opportunity to reach their full potential. GAEO promotes inclusive education without discrimination and supports learning through awareness, community engagement, and direct assistance to primary, secondary, and higher education institutions. Our programs assist helpless and needy children with the full pathway to education, including help with admissions to schools and colleges, support for school renovation where needed, and assistance with monthly fees, uniforms, textbooks, and stationery. GAEO also strengthens learning environments by supporting tuition centers, academies, computer training centers, schools, and colleges with educational materials such as children’s books, school books, reference books, and other learning resources. In addition, GAEO provides vocational education for youth who want to start their own businesses after training. Our technical teams support trainees with job placement options, mentoring, and market linkages for those who seek employment or collaboration with other entrepreneurs, helping turn skills into real income opportunities.

Health Sector

GAEO strengthens health services by combining technical capacity building with community outreach and direct support for vulnerable families. Our medical doctors and health specialists provide training to doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and clinic staff on updated practices, new findings, and appropriate technologies to improve the quality and safety of care at community level. We aim to strengthen service delivery through better clinical skills, improved standards, stronger infection prevention, better patient counseling, basic data use, and more effective teamwork within health facilities. GAEO also provides health education for urban and rural populations across Afghanistan through awareness sessions, printed and electronic media, and face to face engagement in meetings and community gatherings. These efforts help families understand prevention, early care seeking, maternal and child health needs, nutrition, timely referral, vaccination awareness, and healthier daily practices. Where access is limited, GAEO supports needy and poor communities with basic health services, essential medicines, and referrals to appropriate providers, helping close critical gaps for underserved populations in remote areas and hard locations.

WASH Sector

GAEO improves water, sanitation, and hygiene by helping communities access safe and reliable drinking water and adopt healthier hygiene and sanitation practices. Since 2011 we have supported WASH activities that address urgent needs while also building long term behavior change and community systems. GAEO assists targeted populations to gain access to safe and clean water sources by supporting the construction, rehabilitation, or improvement of water points where required, and by promoting safe collection, storage, and use of drinking water. We deliver hygiene awareness sessions that enable families to adopt appropriate habits that reduce disease risks and strengthen community wellbeing. Our programs also contribute to improved sanitation practices by promoting safe behaviors and community led solutions that encourage cleaner environments. In addition, GAEO provides standard hygiene kits to targeted beneficiaries, supporting vulnerable households with essential items that improve dignity and safe daily living.
